As much as Verity wanted to be out there, dealing with tremens herself, her first priority had been getting Liam safely home. She went with her home over his, since he still didn't have a real bed, though considering the state of her cupboards, maybe his place would have been the better idea after all.

But hey, this was Fandom. Takeout during an invasion was a thing, wasn't it? Especially if she tipped really well?

Whatever, they could make it work. Maybe Liam would believe that stale tortilla omelettes were a common Pacific Northwest breakfast food.

...She needed to go grocery shopping like whoa.

"And it's true, I didn't try kissing you before the coffee," Verity admitted, running her fingers through his hair. "Now we'll never know. I mean, unless you wanna get knocked out again? For science?"

Liam huffed out a slight laugh at that. "Tempting. But I'm trying to limit the number of times I get knocked out to about once per calendar year."

"Know that I'm judging your social life so hard right now," Verity teased.

“Hey, up until I moved here, I didn’t have a social life,” Liam pointed out. “It was an occupational hazard!”

... Did he mean having a social life, or getting knocked out? Both, probably.

Verity was assuming both, yeah.

"And now look at you," she said, snickering into his shoulder. "Now you get to spend so many hours with Ralph and Calvin and the other Troopers. How lucky are you?"

"That's the real reason I got jumped by a... whatever that thing was," Liam said. "So I didn't have to listen to them try and convince me that Recycling Amnesty Day is a real thing."

It wasn't, was it?

"What's Recycling Amnesty Day?" Verity asked, which didn't really answer his question either way. "I didn't think you needed amnesty for recycling. I thought it was usually a good thing?"

Liam rolled his eyes. "You'd think. But apparently Recycling Amnesty Day is the day where you can recycle all the crap that you normally shouldn't."

[arboreal_priestess]

"Like...lithium batteries and stuff?"

Even after a year on the island, Verity's imagination could sometimes be disappointingly small.

"Like raccoons."

Liam hadn't even known they had raccoons on the island until that particular incident.

"...How do you recycle a raccoon?" Verity asked, not 100% sure she wanted to know the answer.

"I'm still trying to decide if I want to ask that question," Liam admitted.

[arboreal_priestess]

"That's a good point," Verity said with a shudder. "Someone might answer."

“My thoughts exactly,” Liam nodded. A beat, then a teasing grin. “So. On to better topics... like is there anything in here we can scrounge together for breakfast?”

"Errrr...." She looked at the mice, wondering for a moment if they were inclined to share. And...that was a no.

"Maybe some eggs?"

“We can make that work,” Liam decided. “Probably wiser than asking someone to deliver in the midst of whatever this is.”

[arboreal_priestess]

"I dunno..." Verity said, trying to remember how long eggs were good for. And when she bought them. "Like, if they took a drink before they left, that should get them here and back before it wears off, right?"

"Assuming they don't just get caught themselves," Liam pointed out.

It hadn't been fun, and certainly wasn't a process he'd wish on anyone.

"True enough," Verity sighed, wishing she were a little more selfish. "Eggs and hopefully toast then?"

She'd just gotten bread last week, she knew that much. Because grilled cheese was almost real food. Which meant she probably still had cheese, too, since the mice wouldn't go near Kraft singles.

"Works for me," Liam decided. "There is one tiny problem though..."

"What's that?" Verity asked.

Was it butter? It was probably butter. Verity couldn't say whether she had butter in the house if you paid her.

"We'd have to move," Liam admitted with a deeply dramatic sigh.

Verity looked at him in confusion for a long moment--and then laughed, thinking how very far away from that her brain had been.

"True," she said, snuggling closer. "And you are really comfortable. Are you sure it's worth getting up for?"

"Eventually, sure. Probably." Liam admitted. He'd been the one to bring up breakfast in the first place, after all.

Verity draped her legs over Liam's lap. "I mean, I hear brunch is pretty great this time of year."
