MHA #6, Wednesday Afternoon

They hadn't gotten home until almost dawn yesterday morning, trying to plan for the Covenant and what they could do to keep Baltimore safe from them. And Verity, more dispirited than she was willing to let on, had just fallen facefirst into their--her bed the moment they'd gotten into the bedroom, barely taking the time to kick off her shoes and remove her holster.

Even now, it was afternoon and she was struggling against waking up. Liam was a warm presence beside her, offering comfort just by being there. What would she be doing now if she didn't have him, she wondered? Trying to bring people together all by herself? No one to hold her when it all got to be a bit too much? It was bad enough those rare nights he went back to his place and she didn't follow along; imagining not having him at all was...awful.

Without saying anything, she rolled over on her side and wrapped her arms around him, burying her face in his side.

“Which you are,” Liam insisted. “But I was actually talking about your absolutely incorrect stance on jam and muffins.”

"What is it about breakfast that makes you so incredibly wrong about it?" Verity asked. "Maybe your whole universe just fails at it? Is that the problem?"

“I’m not the one who thinks a breakfast burrito made of leftover Chinese is a valid nutritional choice,” Liam pointed out. “If we’re talking breakfast-related crimes, that’s a big one right there.”

"It's thrifty," Verity declared. "Using up leftovers is a valid and eco-friendly food choice."

She was utterly bullshitting now.

“Then use them up for lunch or dinner,” Liam countered. “Not breakfast.”

"Not always a guarantee I'll have breakfast or dinner," Verity pointed out. "Isn't it more important that I do eat breakfast?"

“Hey, don’t forget, we’re a dual-income household now,” Liam pointed out. “Three meals a day isn’t a problem.”

Verity couldn't help but grin at that. "Ah, but are we a dual-attention and dual-time household?"

“I need about a third of the amount of sleep you do,” Liam reminded her. “Time’s not a problem.” There could be an argument made for attention, though that’s what takeout is for.

"Well, if you wanna make me meals for me while I'm sleeping, I suppose I wouldn't be opposed," Verity said.

“Breakfast in bed?” Liam offered, tone suggestive.

"I think my favorite thing is when you eat 'breakfast' in bed," Verity said, twining one of her legs around one of his.

“It is an excellent way to start the day,” Liam agreed. “... Or finish the day. Actually, that’s something I’m happy to do pretty much any time, I’m not picky.”

"I'd say you've got plenty more opportunity to indulge now, but...when was even the last time you went home?" Verity asked.

While rubbing her leg against Liam's because, damn, if he was going to make promises like that...

Liam shivered in pleasure at the contact. “I thought the whole point was this was home now?” he asked.

"Well, your other home," Verity amended. "The place where you're currently keeping the majority of your furniture."

Liam shrugged. “There was that one night a couple weeks ago?” She’d been out late in Baltimore, and key or not, coming back to the apartment without her there had felt kind of weird, so he’d gone to the house instead. He supposed he’d have to get over that line of thinking, now.

"So, basically what I'm hearing is that we're just really overdue for this conversation and everybody else probably thinks it already happened," Verity said with a laugh.

"That's... entirely possible," Liam admitted, thinking back to the conversation with Kaidan during that weekend where they'd woken up without memories.

Which mostly meant that Verity was overdue for it, because she'd eat her favorite tango dress if Liam hadn't thought about it already. She was the slow one in this relationship, she knew.

"On the plus side, most of your day-to-day stuff is here already," she pointed out.

He absolutely had. But the apartment was (had been?) her space, and so she needed to be the one to take the lead when it came to making it theirs.

"We're absolutely replacing your bed with mine, though." Liam said firmly. The one that had come furnished in the apartment was fine, but Liam's was nicer. But not so nice that he'd mind leaving it behind if and when they eventually left Fandom.

"You keep threatening to replace all my furniture," Verity whined - or, really pretended to. Because, yeah, his bed won, hands down. "My bed, my antique kitchen table that was clearly a family heirloom..."

"Oh no," Liam deadpanned. "You've caught me. I can't believe you uncovered my dastardly plan."

"Are you moving in so you can rob me blind of all my valuable furnishings?" Verity asked, leaning back in her probably handcrafted metal folding chair.

But was it vintage handcrafted?

"Yep," Liam confirmed. "Gonna make a fortune on the secondary market."
